Because our surroundings are not our surroundings. Our surroundings are our surroundings. You can’t change the nature of the world around you. You can’t manipulate the laws of physics. You can’t change anything in the wider world, because the laws of physics are fixed and unchanging.
The game’s main goal is to change the laws of nature in Deathloop, for the better. To do this we have to manipulate the laws of physics and cause our surroundings to act in our best interests, or our worst. If we want our game to be successful, or have a good ending, then the best part of our game is the part that is not influenced by our surroundings.
